Buckie Thistle started their pre-season with an excellent 4-0 win over a young Aberdeen team in the Hamish Munro Testimonial at Victoria Park.
A good crowd turned out to pay tribute to 'Squish', and the Jags delivered on the pitch with first half goals from close range by Lyall Keir and Sam Morrison, followed by second half strikes from Josh Peters and Aaron Nicolson.
Munro was also in charge of the home side in the absence of manager Lewis Mackinnon and was delighted with his team:
“Delighted with how the guys played, their work rate was excellent and they showed a lot of energy and commitment throughout. They did exactly what was asked of them before the game.”
“I said to them afterwards that they’ve set the standard now and they need to kick on from here.”
“I’m delighted with the turnout today, I wasn’t sure how the weather was going to be, but it turned out fine. There’s a bit of relief that it’s all over at the same time, but it’s been a really enjoyable day and totally worthwhile.”
“I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered their help for today, I don’t think we realise how much work goes on behind the scenes in getting games like these on, and it was much appreciated.”
The Jags went in front in the 13th minute, summer signing Harry Noble’s fine free kick from 20 yards was tipped onto the post by Conner Douglas, but Keir was there to poke the ball home from a yard out.
Sam Morrison made it two right on half time, slamming the ball home from close in after Douglas could only scoop Keir’s free kick against Nicolson and into the path of Morrison.
Goal number three arrived seven minutes into the second half, Nicolson holding the ball up well and finding Peters who arrowed a tremendous strike high past substitute goalkeeper Theo Simpson from just outside the penalty area.
Nicolson grabbed a deserved goal on the hour mark, heading firmly past Simpson from a Keir cross from the right.
