ANOTHER LATE SHOW EARNS THISTLE THE WIN

A Jack Murray strike at the death won all three points for Buckie against Huntly at Christie Park, in front of visiting Celtic scout Peter Houston.

The Jags had to come from behind after Angus Grant opened the scoring for the home side, bouncing back to lead through goals from Darryl McHardy and Max Barry. Brodie Allen looked to have earned Huntly a point with a late equaliser, only for Murray to slam home a dramatic winner.

The home side started the game well and in the 4th minute Alex Thoirs delivered a decent cross that just missed Grant in the middle.

A mix up in the visiting defence between Sam Morrison and Stuart Knight left Grant an easy tap-in to put Huntly ahead on six minutes.

Jack Peters had a good low effort held by Fraser Hobday from Jack MacIver’s cross, as the Jags looked for a quick reply.

Grant was then denied a second at the other end when he pounced on an error and Knight saved superbly from his rising shot.

Scott Adams was unlucky not to bag a leveller when Hobday produced a great save from his 25-yard strike, but McHardy did grab the equaliser from the resultant corner, hooking the ball home at the front post to make it one apiece.

Hobday produced another good save from Peters’ low 15-yard shot to keep the scores level.

Grant continued to cause problems for Thistle, and his low ball in from the right was scrambled clear by the visiting defence late in the first half.

Lewis Crosbie made a good run down the right on 49 minutes, MacIver having to make a lunging clearance to clear the danger.

The visitors took the lead on 54 minutes after a mistake in the home defence was pounced on by Barry, and he showed great composure to go wide of Hobday and fire low into the net.

The game erupted on the hour mark when Thoirs was booked for wiping out Sam Pugh. McHardy got involved and he and Thoirs were booked and manager Graeme Stewart saw red, presumably for entering the field of play.

McHardy headed over from another MacIver corner on 67 minutes, then MacIver cut in from the right but his drive was straight at Hobday.

Huntly levelled four minutes from time when Buckie failed to clear their lines and Brodie Allen fired an excellent finish across Knight into the far corner.

Hobday produced another great save to deny McHardy’s powerful header at the back post, but there was nothing he could do to stop Jack Murray's winner - rifled into the roof of net from close range after a goalmouth scramble from the corner.

Keir almost made it four when he won the ball of a defender in the right corner, his low effort was well saved by Hobday.

There was still time for Dale Wood to make a superb block from a header at the far post and preserve all three points for the visitors, who now go on to the mammoth task of facing Celtic at Parkhead in the Scottish Cup.
